All that to say!

For the whole day yesterday I had some of my dear friends over at my house. With some Christmas music in the back ground we crafted our hearts out. The Burnt thicket Theatre will have it's 3rd Annual Christmas Ball and Fundraiser on December the 3th 2011. That evening we will put our dancing shoes on for a magical evening of peppermint swirls and yuletide treats amidst the wonder of a gingerbread land. So guess what we were doing! That's right, we were making huge candy canes, swirls, gingerbread houses and other beautiful decorations in the colors red and white.

  • With my friend Stephanie, I created some Thank You treats for all the guest that will come. We used one of the cutest Stampin Up images from a retired Stampin Up set called: Gifted. It was the perfect touch for this gift. And so easy to create. I hope the pictures will show you some of the fun details.

  • We used the Decorative Label Punch from Stampin Up (#120907 - $22.95) to punch out that classic and elegant shape that you see.

On this Christmas Ball evening there will be an hour of Professional Ballroom Instruction, there will be a Photo booth, elegant and yummy deserts and a wine bar. There will also be a Silent Auction. I contacted Stampin Up if they were willing to donate some SU products. I haven't heard back from them yet, but I heard that they are very generous in donating their items. I will keep you posted.

I will also put some of my home made cards in the Silent Auction. My friends are already raving about how they are going to win this basket full of cards :) I love it, when they are so excited about the things I create. And I keep telling them, just join me.. you will have so much fun doing it :)

The money that will be raised that evening will go to the 'Burnt Thicket Theatre' production of She has a name!

Inspired by an event in April of 2008...in which an abandoned storage container was found in Thailand containing 121 workers from Burma, 54 of them dead, Andrew Kooman’s SHE HAS A NAME gives human trafficking a dramatically personal face.
"SHE HAS A NAME provides candid and authentic insight into human trafficking in South East Asia. The content of this play will make you feel uncomfortable, upset and enraged. As a young lawyer working in Cambodia, SHE HAS A NAME inspired me even more to dedicate my life to the thousands of children who are trafficked every year." --Rebekah Armstrong, Solicitor Te Nahu Lovell & Co., Executive Director of Prescha.org

From what I understood is that Calgary has the most human traffickers in Canada working in the prostitution. This play will connect people to organisations that are trying to help out these young woman and children.

  • There are 27 million slaves in the world today, nearly 1 million trafficked every year into the sex trade. Human trafficking is the fastest growing criminal trade with annual profits estimated at 31 billion US dollars. Yet each person caught in slavery has a story, a story that will likely go unheard.

  • A Note from the Director"SHE HAS A NAME is a story that haunts me. Its emotional journey will grip our audiences by the heart, as artful theatre should. But beyond that, their live experience of Jason and Number 18’s struggle will inspire and stir lasting action. I believe SHE HAS A NAME will be a force that moves many Canadians to become 21st-century abolitionists." --Stephen Waldschmidt

  • About Andrew Kooman, PlaywrightAndrew Kooman is an award winning writer whose stories have been published around the world. His justice-related work has been featured by CBN News and 100 Huntley Street, and has been described as “A siren call [that] will… forever take us from our complacency to the plight of so many lost, lonely and hurting.” He is also the author of the young adult novel Ten Silver Coins: The Drylings of Acchora

In the Netherlands I worked for many years in the Red light District with the addicts and prostitutes. I also worked in a rehabilitation centre where we helped these woman to get on their feet again. My heart just goes out to these woman that are so stuck in the human trafficking world. But I am so thankful that with me just 'crafting' I can help make a difference for these dear woman.

So ya.. maybe a little to heavy topic to end this post with, but I hope it encourages you to go to this Theatre Production when it is going on the road through Canada. Our dear friend Jamie is part of this production and I am so proud of him and his family on how they are bringing awareness to Canada in such a powerful way!

If you would like to come to the Christmas Ball here in Calgary on Dec. 3th @ 7.30 pm then you're so welcome! Please make some reservations at #403-851-0260.
